Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Im not sure where the issue come from, but i got report from both kde and gnome user with same os (Bazzite). The issue basically come from missing variable but causes a whole lot other problem. For example xdg-open doesnt work correctly because for me its missing XDG variable, for other user it is missing DISPLAY variable causing gui to not open.
Describe the solution you'd like
The variable should be set or other ways to make sure it is set properly. I also would love to have pointer where to debug because i cannot find where the issue stems from.
Describe alternatives you've considered
There is no alternative other than not using distrobox that i know of.
Additional context
I cannot reproduce this issue with new user or in fresh install but i pinned (hopefuly right and not a fluke) the issue to somewhere inside ~/.config. For some bizzare reason too, deleting two files there user-dirs.dirs and user-dirs.locale will fix it temporarily in the next boot.
