Add other files to sitemap

It'd be useful to add non-markdown files like PDFs to the sitemap without editing the template

I'm not sure entirely. An option to pass file paths in posts and the global config maybe?

I would also be interested in this. I would be fine with having an option to manually add entries to the generated sitemap, possibly through the frontmatter in page _index.md files? I would mostly use this so that .pdf assets in my website get indexed by search engines. Is there already a way to do this that I'm missing somehow?

For that currently you can create your own template for the sitemap and add the name of the pdfs in the [extra] section of the pages and create an entry when you find one
