pg sql dynamic columns

i didn't find info, how to use sql dynamic columns, can i insert values like strings or need to use sql helper?
for example:

// just like string
await sql`
SELECT * FROM "Users"
WHERE ${columnName} = ${columnValue}
`

// or i need to use sql helper:
await sql`
SELECT * FROM "Users"
WHERE ${sql(columnName)} = ${columnValue}
`

i suggest add to docs, table similar to postgres js

i check, its not working without sql helper (empty array returning), but imho, need to add additional example to docs.
