Distribution: Ubuntu 24.04 for Onedrive

I just installed the Distribution: Ubuntu 24.04 but after it was completed i dont see Onedrive anywhere, this is my first time installing anything from Github so i am not as familiar with the installation.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated

Whilst this is your choice, Ubuntu is not that great of a choice as its LTS (Long Term Stuffed) platforms leave you with bug ridden packages so you are constantly chasing issues. A better alternative would be Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE6) or Debian if you want to stay within that ecosystem, or use Fedora, Manjaro, Arch.

As per the above point (old packages) 'onedrive' and the 'OneDrriveGUI' need to be installed manually.

To install the client on all Debian & Ubuntu based distributions so you get the correct client version + have this updated when new releases are available, please read & follow all the directions for your chosen platform here: https://github.com/abraunegg/onedrive/blob/master/docs/ubuntu-package-install.md

Caution

If you are using a Microsoft OneDrive Personal Account, Microsoft has been progressivly moving everyone to a 'new' backend platform that has introduced 2 significant API bugs:

• OneDrive Personal Account Root ID for users globally is being changed to include 'sea8cc6beffdb43d7976fbc7da445c639' OneDrive/onedrive-api-docs#1890
• ODP: /delta or /children API Call no longer sending Shared Folder JSON data post account change to 'sea8cc6beffdb43d7976fbc7da445c639' OneDrive/onedrive-api-docs#1891

These bugs will impact your use of Microsoft OneDrive on any Linux platform if you are using any OneDrive Personal Shared Folder. In v2.5.4 these bugs as a result of using Shared Folders will cause an application crash. This crash has been worked around, and the fix will be available in the v2.5.5 application release that will drop in the next few weeks.

Thank you for your hard work. It's been really useful for people who are forced to work with Windows but prefer to do things in Linux. I've been using it for over two years, and it's been great.

I do have a comment, though. I followed the instructions and reinstalled OneDrive after getting the following message, but I'm still getting the same message. Is the upgrade to version 2.5.5 already available for Ubuntu 24.04? I don't think it is, so what am I getting the warning for?

WARNING: Your onedrive client version is now obsolete and unsupported. Please upgrade your client version.
Current Application Version: 2.4.25
Version Available: 2.5.5

All the OpenSuSE packages are up-to-to-date with v2.5.5 .... you can review this manually yourself:

Thanks for getting back to me. As I said, I did follow the instructions, line by line. I wouldn't know another way of doing it. I even double-checked the wget file today. I reinstalled my Linux yesterday, so I have a fresh new environment now. No errors in the update, upgrade, suse repository, etc. All clean. So the reason I'm still getting the old version is beyond my knowledge. That's why I decided to write this post.

You are installing from the Ubuntu repositories .. thats your answer.

Whatever is occuring for you is based on how your system is using or not using the OpenSuSE repo.

You are using Ubuntu ... please seek support from them as to why their **** distribution is not respecting where to install software from.

When you solve that, you still will need to solve your 'curl' / 'libcurl' issue that your Ubuntu platform has ...

Or .. use a better distribution .. if you wish to stay with the 'apt' way of doing things migrate to Debian 12 or Linux Mint Debian Edition where updated packages are available via backports. If you wish to move away from 'apt' use Fedora where things just work out of the box.

Anyway, I can clearly see you're frustrated with how Ubuntu is handling things and that you've reached your limit. That's fair enough. You're doing a great job helping the community, and it doesn't have to be perfect for all distributions.

Since I just reinstalled Ubuntu, I'll consider your suggestion to move to Debian. I have a final question: What are the consequences of continuing to use version 2.4.25?

I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I could only check what happened yesterday. And you are 100% right, as expected. It's always the user's fault! Shame on me!

You mentioned the fresh installation of Ubuntu, and since mine is fresh too, I had the idea of running history on the terminal I used to install OneDrive. Lo and behold, I skipped one step in the instructions. In my defence, they start with the same sentence, and nowadays we are always rushing against time and trying to get a shortcut. So, my mind just ignored the second step because "I've just added the OpenSuSE Build Service repository", so here comes Step 3. Bad, right? Really bad, and I do apologise.

After realising my mistake, I checked your pictures. As clear as a whistle. Thank you so much for going above and beyond to help me. Version v2.5.5-1+np1+1.1 is now working just fine.

Keep it up with the good work and patience with the users. We are not bad people, I promise you, but we have many limitations! Anyway, we are all trying our best! :)

As you are also persisting with Ubuntu, please update your version of 'curl' and 'libcurl' urgently.

These packages are leaned upon heavily by this client, and, Ubuntu fails to provide users with a workable version. Please read:

You will run into operational issues when using the client if you do not upgrade these broken packages on your Ubuntu platform.

Yes, for now I'm sticking with Ubuntu. But, to my surprise, it seems I don't have curl installed. When I try to see the version, I get the option to install version 8.13.0 using snap.

luciana@:~$ curl --version
Command 'curl' not found, but can be installed with:
sudo snap install curl # version 8.13.0

The list with Known curl versions with compatibility issues for this client only goes up to 8.10. However, when I run onedrive, I get the following message, indicating that I do have curl installed.

WARNING: Your cURL/libcurl version (8.5.0) has known HTTP/2 bugs that impact the use of this client.

So, I'm confused. Should I give it a try and snap version 8.13.0?

Please follow the instructions provided to manually build and install 'curl' and 'libcurl' for your Ubuntu platform.

If you were not using Ubuntu (and using either Debian 12 or Linux Mint Debian Edition 6) you could simply install the required updates from Debian Backports.

Ubuntu has no concept of this .. LTS is called this for a reason - and it is not Long Term Support .. it is Long Term Stuffed as Ubuntu only ever provides updates if there is a security issue .. not actual bugs that impact operability of their distribution and platform.
